First visit to Baltimore. We traveled to Baltimore for a day trip while in the area attending a conference in Gettysburg,PA.* What an honor it was to visit The Walters Art Museum which is among America's most distinctive museums. My most memorable impression from this visit was the incredible team of staff and volunteers who greeted and welcomed us as of we were dignitaries. What a team of hospitable, energetic and courteous professionals who all blew our minds from the front entrance to the security officers and housekeeping staff. The café staff made us feel at home. Of notable mention is the graciousness extended by Ms. Brandi Coles. Ms. Coles greeted us and provided an impromptu tour of the area. Her courteousness was extended by providing us with complimentary refreshments to which we were extremely grateful. We were surprised that the museum admission was free and even more delightfully surprised to participate in a "make and take" art project. The coordinators for this activity were so very cheerful and encouraging. Having this activity specifically for adults is important for stress reduction, creative thinking and boosting self-esteem. We connected with so many individuals from all walks of life and the diversity in attendance was truly refreshing and beautiful to see. Thank for all that you do and we encourage all to visit this truly special place. We were truly moved by our visit and look forward to returning again in the...
Read morePlease go check this new Asia Art Collection out, it’s amazing. I was rushing and wanted to spend about an hour at the museum. I ended up spending more than 3 hours and the security people had to tell me to get ready to leave ( nicely thought) because the Museum will close in 5min 😂. I was hooked 😂. The Asian Art Collection on the 4th floor is new and impressive. I spent a long time checking the Japanese art pieces. I felt in love with the Samouraï Piece. The swords and the blue white ceramics were also great pieces. I’m glad that a Security team member told me about the Quran that was available at the Islamic Art Connection room. This Quran is breathtaking. The calligraphy and craftsmanship of the pieces in that room is mind blowing. Beside the religious side that I loved 🥰 I greatly appreciated how this collection featured the Calligraphy related to Islam and the Arabic language. Check it, it’s unique. The giants golden or gold platted Sword in the Islamic Art Connection was my favorite piece. It’s beautiful, but also functional. I learned that it was made to be an ornament and was functional as he could be used to shoot. Mind blowing. The next Piece I likes was the Thammat. This piece was assembled at the museum. It’s a Thai Temple shaped structure. There is so much to be said… I was mesmerized by all the craftsmanship behind these unique art pieces. I’m going back and will keep...
Read moreI love that it's free. I went on a Saturday and it was not crowded at all. Self-serve locker and coatrooms. The road construction in the area right now is awful, but our GPS got us to the parking lot with no problems. It is currently fifteen dollars to park, and you only get a discount if you are a member, not just a visitor. I liked the stories that were told in each room. Some galleries are set up as a private display or study, and you have to read a guide to identify the artwork. While some find this inconvenient, I think it made the displays very vice. But I was glad that not all were like this, too much reading! I was able to see most of the collection in the regular hours (though I missed much of antiquity, I have this problem in all museums that you go around in circles and get lost, then don't remember if you've been in a room already) I have personal interest in the collection, so I was delighted to see work that once belonged in my family. I was disappointed that so much of it is in storage. I wanted to purchase postcards and prints but the gift shop was the most disappointing part - very limited selection, and some of what was offered wasn't even on display. There was no way to order prints from the collection. Overall, it's...
