๐บ๐ธ Baltimore Travel Guide ๐๏ธ | JHU & Inner Harbor ๐ฆ
My first work trip to the East Coast brought me to Baltimore โ home of Amos from The Expanse and a filming location for House of Cards. This city feels like "faded nobility" โ complex, historic, and full of contrast. As they say: "Baltimore is Baltimore." โ ๏ธ Safety First: โ Stick to the north (JHU area) and south (Inner Harbor) โ these are safer. โ Avoid east and west neighborhoods. ๐ท Donโt walk beyond JHUโs hospital zone. ๐ Donโt leave valuables in your car. ๐ Avoid eye contact with loiterers. Youโll see stark contrasts: abandoned row houses, boarded-up windows, graffiti ๐จ โ but also clean, bustling areas like Inner Harbor and beautiful JHU campus. Thereโs a visible police presence โ JHU has its own patrols. ๐จ Hotel: We stayed at DoubleTree by Hilton near JHU. It was clean but faced the street โ sirens kept us up at night ๐จ. ๐ฝ๏ธ Food: ๐ฆช Thames Street Oyster House: Fresh oysters, affordable, and delicious! ๐ฆ Local blue crab and crab cakes are a must-try. ๐ Near JHU: Kajiken Ramen and Sichuan restaurants are solid. ๐ฅช Plenty of options like Chipotle, Subway, and supermarkets โ no car needed. ๐ฐ Prices are reasonable, and rideshares are cheap. ๐ญ Things to Do: We skipped the National Aquarium ($50/person โ friends said itโs overpriced with few fish ๐ ). Instead, we walked around Inner Harbor โ nice views, but quiet at night. ๐ฎ Police are around, but itโs best to head back early. ๐ฅ Diversity & Community: Not many Asians outside campus, but many Haitians (including Uber drivers) โ respect to those whoโve lived here for years. They say safety has improved vs. the "crazy" past. JHU is a well-protected bubble โ great for studying! ๐ #JohnsHopkins #Baltimore #TravelGuide #USATravel #InnerHarbor #WorkTrip #CityOfContrasts
