🇺🇸 Detroit | Techno's Holy Land, City of Dreams
For August long weekend, I skipped Veld Festival and road-tripped straight to Techno's birthplace – where industrial decay meets underground soul. Detroit isn’t just the Motor City; it’s a time capsule of techno history, wrapped in Harkonnen-style brutalism and Midwest warmth. Maybe not my dream city, but forever the city in my dreams. 🌟 Must-Do Techno Pilgrimage 1️⃣ GM Renaissance Center • Backrooms IRL: Abandoned conference halls + hauntingly empty escalators (like a liminal space dream). Spend hours "exploring" – but hurry, it might close soon! 2️⃣ People Mover • Free elevated train looping downtown = GTA vibes unlocked 🚈 3️⃣ Hart Plaza + Guardian Building • Hart Plaza: Home of Movement Festival (techno mecca!) • Guardian Building: Art Deco murals that’ll melt your eyeballs 👀 4️⃣ Ford Factory (FAILED 😢) • Techno’s spiritual birthplace – but closed Sundays (next time!) 5️⃣ Detroit Institute of Arts • Outer sculptures = insta-bait, but ran out of time (next time ×2!) 🏨 Stay: Trumbull & Porter Hotel • Old-money aesthetic, cheap by NA standards • Free bikes (but Detroit streets = extreme sport) 🍝 Eat: Mama’s Spaghetti • Eminem’s $10 spaghetti joint – order in an alley, eat in a diner. Detroit as hell. Plot twist? Came for techno roots, found zero parties that weekend. But Detroit’s gritty magic hooked me. Movement + Ford Factory + DIA = 2024 goals. #Detroit #TechnoCity #UrbanExplorer
