iโm white it was hot. Not too bad but Iโm just sensitive to the sun.So I had not only an umbrella but a little blanket on the umbrella, my darker skin friend was fine on the hot black monolithic amphitheater of the Carhartt stage. So when I felt my life force draining out of me, I went down a little further to the stage level, in there to the right was all the shade I could possibly want. And donโt tell anybody but hidden plumbed womenโs bathrooms. Mums the word. Above us were thousands of people using Porta pottyโs and then maybe tens of people knew about the womenโs bathroom. But anyway 4 days ,three stages free music! The food trucks were jammin. I drank my weight in yummy lemonade. Now the GPS that I was using on my phone could not tell me how to get to this festival from ann arbor though I tried several times. it could not tell me where any parking was closer than 10 miles which was just โฆI donโt know I fell into some kind of Internet black hole. So we decided to go anyway and just research on the ground. Then amazingly free Street parking was right there handy. That was a stroke of luck Iโm sure. But there was also a sign for $10 parkingOn the street adjacent...
ย ย ย Read moreHart Plaza has a Stargate! Not really. It's the Transcending Monument, a powerful tribute to Michiganโs labor movement designed by artist David Barr and architect Sergio De Giusti.
The plaza is located next to the iconic GM Renaissance Center and is the site where Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac landed in 1701, founding Fort Pontchartrain du Dรฉtroit - the settlement that eventually grew to become the City of Detroit. The site was a bustling waterfront hub filled with docks, warehouses, and ferry terminals until the mid-20th century. In the 1970's, it was reopened as this mixed concrete and grass plaza that serves as a central spot for Detroit's festivals and gatherings. I was here around the time of the Independence Day fireworks display so it was crowded and busy and interesting.
Several other monuments here that are worth seeing including the Cadillac Statue, the Horace E. Dodge and Son Memorial Fountain and the Gateway to...
ย ย ย Read moreIt had been a long time since I'd been in Hart Plaza, so I figured the Ribs n Soul Fest would be a good time. We parked down by the river walk carousel and walked down. The walk was very nice. My only suggestion would be to maybe add a lane strictly for biking and other wheeled contraptions that are available for rent. If it is a sunny day, I'd advise an umbrella or hat as there is little shade in the actual walking path. HART PLAZA itself was a bit lackluster compared to my last visit. I'm used to seeing the fountain on and children running through the water. It wasn't on. It was a little sad that you had to pay to get into an ethnic festival when they use to be free entry, but I can understand the necessity to keep it going so I didn't mind. Parking is pretty much standard, as in, you will pay unless you park out and walk it, Q-line it, or take the people mover. I'll go again...
