During my time in Gainesville, I’ve been on a mission to find great Mexican food—and La Tienda definitely stands out! 🌯 This place has a solid 4.5🌟 rating on Google, and after ordering takeout from them two days in a row, I can confirm: it’s legit and delicious. Highly recommend! The name “La Tienda” means “the store” in Spanish—and true to its name, it’s part restaurant, part mini-market 🛒. You can even find random stuff like shampoo here. Kinda quirky, but fun! The space is small and no-frills, decked out in vibrant Mexican colors. Near the entrance, there’s a fridge with drinks and homemade desserts. Ordering here is fast-casual style: you line up at the counter, place your order, and if you’re dining in, a friendly server brings your food to the table. We came specifically for their menudo—a traditional Mexican soup only available on weekends. Think of it as a Mexican-style tripe soup 🐄, made with cow stomach, hominy, onions, peppers, chili, and spices in a rich broth. For under $15, you get a huge portion that comes with two tortillas. The soup is tangy, lightly spicy, and packed with flavor—no off-putting smell! It also includes tripe and even cow’s feet (my first time trying it in the US!). The feet were stewed until tender and full of collagen—so good! 👌 Just a heads-up: the flavor is authentically Mexican, so don’t expect it to taste like Chinese offal soup. We also tried their tacos 🌮: 3 for $10 (except seafood ones). The meat options go beyond the usual—think beef tongue, chorizo, tripe, beef cheek, and even goat! I tried chorizo, tripe, and tongue—all were flavorful and well-made. Final verdict: This place totally deserves its 4.5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ Affordable, authentic, and generous portions.
