🇺🇸 George Washington's Historic Home | Mount Vernon

It's been 20 years since my last visit to Mount Vernon—George Washington's iconic estate! 🏛️🌳 Unfortunately, this time, the upper floors and basement were under renovation, and several rooms on the first floor were also closed for construction 🛠️. We only got to see a few areas open to the public. One highlight was the grain processing demonstration at the barn—they showed how horses were used to thresh wheat back in the day! 🐎🌾 It’s important to remember that Washington was a major slave owner, holding over 300 enslaved people. Upon his death, he granted freedom to more than 100 of them. During our visit, a Black choir happened to be performing—their singing was powerful and moving 🎤❤️. Afterward, we drove across the river to Fort Washington 🏰, a defensive fortress built during the Revolutionary War. Well-preserved and full of history!
