🇺🇸 Madison Food Gem 🐟 Laotian Cuisine at Ahan
This is a flavor I’ve never experienced back in China — so for anyone looking to try something new, this place is a MUST! 🤤 I ordered from their specials menu: a grilled chicken dish that was absolutely incredible!!! 🍗 The sauce was savory with hints of tom yum and a touch of mayo — a complex, umami-packed blend. The skin was crispy, the wingtips were a bit chewy, but overall: fragrant and delicious! Also got the Mok Pa — steamed cod wrapped in lotus leaves 🍃🐟 The fish was super tender, and the dipping sauce was divine — rich, aromatic, and hard to describe… It’s like Thai and Vietnamese but uniquely its own (sorry, I’ve only had Thai and Vietnamese before 😭). Tried the fried coconut cake too — tasted like a coconut-filled sesame ball 🥥🍡 Interesting, but skip-worthy. P1 is a soup from their specials menu — couldn’t find the name online; might be seasonal? It’s a rich, tangy, spicy broth (like tom yum + curry + coconut milk + herbal notes) with rice noodles and… crispy fried chicken! 🍜🍗 That fried chicken topping was so crunchy and delicious 😭 I’m definitely ordering just the fried chicken next time! #100RestaurantsChallenge #MadisonEats #LaotianFood #UWMadison #FoodExplorer
