🇺🇸 Memphis Food Diaries 1 | Exploring Beale Street 🎵🍔
Just moved to Memphis recently, so I’ve been exploring the city bit by bit. Today I wandered around Beale Street—and it’s pretty cool! Like a more low-key, gritty version of Nashville 😄. There were a lot of police around (lol), but having lived in Baltimore before, Memphis doesn’t feel as dangerous as some people say. Came across a really interesting sign about Chinese immigrants in Memphis 📜. Back during the era of racial segregation, Chinese shop owners sold groceries to Black communities—a small but meaningful act of solidarity and resilience. There were also some quirky restaurants around—I even spotted one called the “Irish Goat” 🐐. Definitely adding that to my must-try list! Grabbed lunch at Dock Off 5th – such a vibe! The place reminded me of those cozy, stylish cafés you find in Cambridge 🧑🎓. I ordered the Dock’s Sliders – delicious 😋 – and the Honey Chicken Sandwich, which was also a win 🍯🍗. But then… I made a mistake 😅: I tried the “Seafood Heaven” fried rice 🍤🍚 and couldn’t even find a strand of lobster 🦞. Lesson learned: in a cool spot like this, stick to what they do best—don’t risk the fried rice. All in all, a fun day getting to know Memphis—full of history, flavor, and good vibes. Can’t wait to explore more hidden gems around the city! #Memphis #FoodDiary #BealeStreet #ChineseHistory #SouthernEats #EatLikeALocal
