๐บ๐ธ Washington DC Summer Nights โ Bright Lights & Mixed Feelings ๐ก๐
Last summer, I worked in the DMV area and found DC truly beautiful โ in both sun and rain. On the surface, DC feels welcoming โ not overwhelming like New York, nor delusionally eternal-youthful like San Diego. The low-rise buildings give the city an open, relaxed vibe. Friday nights in Georgetown are filled with young professionals dining, drinking, and catching movies. On Saturday mornings, couples stroll hand-in-hand through the zoo, art museums, and cafรฉs. My affection for DC summers is light but persistent.๐ถ But behind the charm, DCโs work culture can feel as sticky and stifling as a heatwave. Walking down the street, it was rare to see another Asian face. As my friend sharply put it: โOn dating apps in DC, you only find three types of people: government workers, finance/consulting folks, and Amazon/Capital One employees.โ ๐ Late at night, when I couldnโt sleep, Iโd open my curtains and see the Amazon Arlington offices still brightly lit. Summer is a season that amplifies your senses and makes you feel intensely alive โ yet the same metro that takes you shopping on weekends is also your daily commute vehicle. Seeing rows of tech logo backpacks, ties, and ID badges every morning quietly wore me down โ I lost six pounds without even noticing.โค๏ธ DCโs summer is lovely โ but when youโre caught up in work, itโs easy to forget to actually live it. ๐๐ผ Does Amazonโs dog park really help engineers decompress?๐ Do consulting happy hours actually make people happy? For me, DC is better suited for vacationing โ not grinding. #WashingtonDC #SummerInternship #DMVLife #FinanceBro #HingeDating #WorkCulture #AmazonLife #DCSummer
