4 Days in Hobart, Tasmania

Tasmania is perfect for a road trip, but this time we decided to focus just on Hobart — saving the full island loop for a summer self-drive! 🚗💨 We flew from Hong Kong at 10 PM, had a 9-hour layover in Sydney 😴, and finally landed in Hobart around 9 PM. Due to some document issues, I couldn’t pick up the rental car that night — had to take the airport shuttle to the city and then a taxi to our accommodation. Day 1️⃣ Spent the morning back at the airport sorting out the car rental — what a time drain! 🕙 By the time we hit the road, it was almost noon. Winter here means the sun sets by 4:30 PM 🌅 🏡 Richmond Town A cute little town with unique shops — perfect for a relaxed stroll. 🦘 Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary Not a huge variety of animals, but the best kangaroo encounter of our 20-day Australia trip! Hundreds of laid-back roos lounging around 🥹 Entry: $54 AUD for 1 adult + 1 child — includes kangaroo food! Staff taught the kids how to feed and pet them gently. 🌊 Waterfront Dinner Hit two popular spots at the dock for fish & chips and ice cream 🍦🐟 Day 2️⃣ Bruny Island 🚢 Car ferry: $53 per vehicle (20-min ride) 🦪 Fresh oysters = delicious! 🍯 Honey shop = amazing! 💨 Lighthouse winds = nearly blew us away 😂 🌈 Saw a rainbow where the Indian and Pacific Oceans meet 🌊 No need to stay overnight, but definitely worth a full day! Day 3️⃣ Planned to go to Maria Island — but it was closed for annual maintenance 😭 Changed plans to Fossil Cove — a 10-min walk through the woods to a small beach with fish fossils in the cliffs. Kids loved it! 🐠🏖️ Spent the afternoon wandering and visited a church in the evening. At night, we chased the aurora — drove to Tinderbox around 10 PM and caught the southern lights! 🌌 Not super bright, but totally worth the trip! Day 4️⃣ Took it easy on our last day — visited the famous MONA Museum 🎨 Stopped by Montrose Community Park on the way — great playground for kids! 👧🧒 No strict schedule — we’ll be back anyway!
