A Chinese Restaurant That Deserves to Be Known by More People!

I’ve been to this restaurant many times—I always call it “Fish Tank Maker” by mistake (laughs), but it’s actually called , with the English name Absolutely Asia. It’s located in Waltham and offers a blend of Sichuan, Cantonese, and creative Asian fusion cuisine. Below is my personal review of some standout dishes—covering both taste and atmosphere—to help guide your visit. 🍲 Dish Experience 1️⃣ Perilla Bullfrog Pot ($39) Tastes just like home! The flavor is very similar to the popular Chinese chain Spicy, savory, and perfect with rice. As someone who can only handle mild spice, this dish had me sweating—if you’re not into intense heat, be sure to ask for less spice. 2️⃣ Wanzhou Grilled Fish I’ve ordered this at least three times. Served in a rectangular pan, it’s perfect for sharing among four people. In Boston—a bit of a “food desert” when it comes to grilled fish—this is a standout. Like the bullfrog pot, it’s great with rice. Be sure to add your favorite sides; I recommend mung bean sprouts and konjac noodles. 3️⃣ Pork Lung in Typhoon Shelter Style A seasonal dish—I tried it in August. A great choice for those who prefer milder spice. Both the presentation and flavor make it a treat-yourself kind of dish. The only downside is the price, but that’s more my problem 😭 4️⃣ Pan-Fried Pork Buns Absolutely perfect—must try! Comparable to “Spring House,” with a thin, crispy bottom and juicy filling. 5️⃣ Herbal Pepper Pork Tripe & Chicken Soup ($48 / $78) As a warming winter soup, it’s decent—but for the price, it wasn’t particularly impressive. 6️⃣ Fried Chicken Strips (Small Bag) Tastes just like the snack sold outside schools back in the day. Best enjoyed hot in the restaurant for a real nostalgic kick. This might not be on the menu, so ask your server directly. 7️⃣ Fried Platter, Crab Claws, etc. The restaurant has many local customers, and dishes like the fried platter (pictured in Fig. 5) are geared more toward Western tastes. Be careful not to order the wrong thing—these are really for foreign friends 🥹 🏮 Ambiance & Service Plenty of parking in front; you can also park at the nearby supermarket. The servers (especially the women) are warm and attentive. The only downside is it can get quite cold inside—last time I had grilled fish, I had to keep my jacket on 😭 (but I heard they recently upgraded the AC, so it should be better now). Overall, (Absolutely Asia) is a Chinese restaurant I return to again and again. It’s one of the more authentic and flavorful newer Chinese spots in Boston—perfect for casual gatherings with friends. It definitely deserves more recognition! 📌 Address: 864 Main St, Waltham, MA 02451 #BostonLife #StudyEatWell #BostonFoodExploration #HiddenGemEats
