A Daily Glimpse: A Contemporary Collector’s Private Home in LA|🏛️

Frederick 🎨 🌳He opens the doors of his own home for people to come and view his art collection. Moving beyond the cold formalities of museums, he wants to show how art breathes in everyday life. Perhaps, visitors will leave with new eyes. 🌳Located west of Los Angeles, in Holmby Hills. The estate consists of two buildings, embraced by lush gardens. 🌳The main house is a two-story Mediterranean Revival masterpiece designed by Gordon B. Kaufman, filled with the craftsmanship and intricate details of its era. In 1991, a postmodern art pavilion was added to the grounds—designed by Franklin D. Israel— specifically to house artworks too large for conventional spaces. 🌳The owner, Frederick R. Weisman, is one of the most influential contemporary art collectors. He is the subject of David Hockney’s painting American Collectors (Fred and Marcia Weisman). Born in Minneapolis, he was the third of five sons. Following in his father’s footsteps, he became a businessman. In the 1940s, he and his wife Marcia Simon began collecting art. 🌳They started with post-war American and European artists—Giacometti, Noguchi, Calder, Jasper Johns— then expanded to Cézanne, Picasso, Kandinsky, Max Ernst, Joan Miró, René Magritte, as well as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and more. The collection also features works by contemporary Californian artists like Ed Ruscha, Joe Goode, and M.A. Oalford, alongside hyperrealist sculptures by Duane Hanson and John de Andrea. It’s a collection that inspires both envy and gratitude… 🙏✨ #ArtCollectorsHome #LosAngeles #ModernistDesign #LifeAsInspiration #ArtInDailyLife #CrossCulturalArt #MuseumRecommendationSeason #MyExhibitionDiary #ModernArtWalk #PrivateCollection #ArchitectureLovers
