๐ A Day in Two Cities: Uji + Nara ๐ธ
Stepping out of Uji Train Station, I felt an uncanny resemblance to Girona, ๐ธ๐บ๐ฟ a suburb of Barcelona, both being small towns perfect for walking around. ๐ถโโ๏ธ If you happen to have 10,000 yen, you can visit Byodo-in temple and see two treasures: ๐ธ๐บ๐ฟ one is a bronze peacock, and the other is arguably the finest Japanese Buddha statue (the oldest one is in Toshodai-ji Temple). ๐บ The riverside restaurant in the scenic area offers a meal for just 36XX yen, which is truly a conscience price. ๐ธ๐บ๐ฟ In the afternoon, I visited Toshodai-ji Temple and fed deer at Nara Park. The great master Jianzhen (ancient language uses "He Shang" or maybe back then there was no writing in Japan) made six eastward voyages (smuggling) and finally started preaching, ๐ธ๐บ๐ฟ upholding precepts, and teaching. ๐ฟ The Buddha statues there are even older, but the craftsmanship is not as good as those inside Byodo-in Temple; ๐ธ๐บ๐ฟ it seemed to wink its left eye at me twice... ๐ For some details on feeding deer, you can refer to my previous posts. ๐ธ๐บ๐ฟ #Uji #Byodo-in #UjiByodoinTemple ๐
