A Detailed 2-Day Itinerary in Canberra

Day 1 9:00 AM: Depart Sydney for Canberra by Murrays bus 🚌 12:30 PM: Arrive at Canberra Coach Station. We ate and drank along the way, so we weren’t hungry when we got off. Head straight to Meriton Suites (40 Allara St). 12:58 PM - 2:15 PM: Visit the Australian War Memorial 📿 2:25 PM - 4:45 PM: Visit the National Gallery of Australia 🎨 • Personally, apart from Monet’s Water Lilies and the Within Without installation, as someone without an eye for art, I really only got to see the "spectacle". Then walk about 200 meters to Lake Burley Griffin (quiet and calm, but didn’t feel particularly special). Return to Within Without outside the gallery—it’s truly beautiful with its mirrored and three - dimensional aesthetics. (P.S.: It has been under maintenance since March 31st.) 😔 Day 2 Woke up early, checked out at 8:30 AM after packing up, stored luggage at the hotel, had breakfast at McDonald’s, and took a taxi to the mint at 9:18 AM. 9:30 AM - 10:20 AM: Visit the Royal Australian Mint 💰 • The shop is great for browsing. Had 6 60th - anniversary commemorative coins made ($3 for 1 coin) and bought a Penny that was actually in use before the mint was built (got a 1951 one). Worth a revisit. 😎 10:29 AM - 11:20 AM: Take an Uber to Parliament House to visit the chambers and portraits of some leaders. 🏛 11:40 AM - 12:40 PM: Take a leisurely 20 - minute walk to the Museum of Australian Democracy (Old Parliament House) • I think this is the most worthwhile place to visit. All room layouts and furnishings are preserved in their original state, with some audio recordings from the time—it feels like stepping back in time. If you have the energy, take your time exploring; allocate at least 1 - 1.5 hours. The staff are also super friendly. 😊 12:40 PM: Return to Canberra Centre for shopping, lunch, and a break. 🛍 2:30 PM: Go back to the hotel to pick up luggage, charge the phone a bit more, leave at 3:30 PM to buy some snacks on the way, walk to the bus station, and prepare to head back to Sydney. 🚗 Personal thoughts: Canberra is spacious with few shaded areas, so it’s easy to get sunburned. Taking Ubers is super cost - effective (Uber fares attached in photo 18)—recommend taking taxis between attractions. There’s a Lane (Chinese restaurant) near Meriton Suites, so it’s easy to find Chinese food if you’re craving it. OMI Japanese restaurant (found on Xiaohongshu) was personally a far cry from Sydney’s standards, and Kinn Thai was just okay—nothing special. 🤔 #AustralianLife #Travel #Canberra
