A Full Happy Hour Food & Drink Recap ๐๐ถ
Anju is seriously famous in DC โ it's won awards, been on TV, and is especially loved by local professionals. Just check their Google ratings to see how popular they are! ๐๐ I hadn't been back in a while because it's always so busy, but I recently stopped by for Happy Hour and overall, it was a pretty solid experience! ๐ Korean Snacks & Small Plates ๐ Korean Fried Chicken: So good! ๐ The Happy Hour portion included two large wings and drumettes โ Iโm guessing it's about half the size of the regular entrรฉe. The crust was super crispy, the sweet-spicy glaze was spot-on, and the extra white drizzled sauce added great flavor without being overpowering. Itโs definitely messy, but thankfully this dish comes with a handy wet wipe! ๐งปโจ Kongguksu Noodles: Google says it's a cold noodle dish in a soy milk broth โ can anyone confirm? ๐ง The broth was creamy but pretty mild, served with ice cubes, chili oil, cucumber, and tomato. The noodles were a small portion of thin strands โ gone in just two chopstick lifts ๐ โฆ Honestly, it was underwhelming and not really worth the $8. Mandu Dumplings: Three large pork and kimchi dumplings ๐ฅ, pan-fried on both sides, served with a tangy dipping sauce. They tasted like they were pre-cooked and reheated, but the flavor was on point โ crispy outside, tender inside. Tasty! Banchan Side Dishes: In traditional Korean restaurants, banchan is usually free and comes in several small plates. Iโve heard that the best spots win repeat customers with their banchan! At Anju, theyโre paid extras, but honestly, they were delicious. My favorite was the braised lotus root โ savory, rich, and slightly sweet, perfect with rice! ๐ Second favorite: pickled chayote, so crunchy I couldnโt stop eating it. The fish cakes were also soft and flavorful. Ironic though โ the banchan were the star of the night! I ordered three sides + rice for $15 (rice was free, and they gave one kimchi complimentary with my main). So basicallyโฆ I enjoyed a really delicious banchan meal ๐ Korean-Style Drinks ๐ถ For Booze Lovers: Shandy โ Kirin beer with a shot of citrus soju. Refreshing and easy to drink! ๐๐บ For Fruit Lovers: Soju Spritz โ Soju, sparkling water, and Sac Sac juice. I chose grape โ super fruity, lightly fizzy, perfect for a post-work wind-down! ๐๐ฅ Happy Hour runs MondayโFriday, 5โ6 PM, with discounts available only on the first floor. I visited on Thursday around 5:30 PM and sat at the bar โ it wasnโt too crowded, though the vibe was just okay. Still, itโs a great local spot to check out! The area around 18th Street up toward Adams Morgan is a real hotspot. ๐๐ Address: Anju, 1805 18th St NW, Washington, DC 20009 Have you been to Anju? What did you think of their Happy Hour deals?
