A Hidden Bakery in the Alley | Eric Maurin
Jet lag hit hard—I was up at 5 AM, and this 6 AM-opening boulangerie felt like salvation! Sleep in even a little longer, and I might’ve settled for the 7 AM spot nearby (no comparison, no heartbreak) and missed the dessert of my life.💕 Tucked away on Mazargues Avenue, just a 13-minute walk from my Marseille apartment, Eric Maurin has it all: pastries, bread, chocolates, tiny treats, and stunning cakes. I ordered the usual croissant and croissant roll—both delicious (though not the best in France, where the competition is fierce). But the real showstopper? The desserts!💕 P7: The apple tart pales next to the apricot one. The baked apricots have a subtle caramelized sweetness, balanced by their natural tartness—way better than it looks. This post is for all the wanderers who visit Marseille but want to skip the city, focusing instead on beaches and natural landscapes 🌿 I spent four days in Marseille. Beyond exploring the Vieux-Port and trying classic bouillabaisse, I went all out to check out beaches in and around the city—including Île du Frioul, Calanques National Park, and the ultra-hidden Niolon villag Download Map Calanques for hiking guides—most routes don’t require reservations. I visited Morgiou: hike in using Google Maps, and volunteers at the trailhead will share tips. There’s little phone service inside, so download the app beforehand for offline navigation.💕 At the end of the trail, you’ll find a beautiful stony beach—keep an eye out for sea urchins! Marseille is known as France's "messiest" city. As it's located in the southernmost part of the country, many people from North Africa land here, and currently, the Muslim population accounts for a quarter of the total.👌 We didn't go to the old town of Marseille because when checking the parking lot reviews, the third one was a photo of a smashed car window. We don't want to be stubborn, but we believe in fate. It's better to go with such hints.💕 If you, like me, are afraid of crowds and worried about theft, but still want to experience the charm of an old port, then you can come to Cassis. It's a 30-minute drive from Marseille's old town and is like a mini version of it. #Marseille #Mediterranean #Provence#MarseilleBakery #FrenchPastryHeaven #HiddenGem
