A Two-Day Trip to Marseille

Spent a weekend in Marseille with friends, taking the train down. The city feels gritty with lots of graffiti and old buildings, but compared to other spots in southern France, it’s packed with things to see 😊. 🚇 Transportation Bought a €5.2 daily metro ticket—you can find detailed guides 🏨 Accommodation Stayed at a chain hotel near Vieux Port. Nothing fancy, but fine for a night. 🌞 Day 1: Train Station → Vieux Port → Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde → Abbey of Saint Victor → Vieux Port Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde: Stunning church! Fitting for a port city—its interior is decorated with seaweed, fish, ships, and other marine motifs. The view from outside overlooks all of Marseille, but the weather was grim that day ☁️. Public restrooms cost €1 to use. Abbey of Saint Victor: Ancient and peaceful, though not much to “see”—it’s more about soaking up the atmosphere. The crypt tour is €2 per person. We tried a highly recommended Tunisian restaurant with friends… personally, I didn’t like it. The area felt sketchy, and the prices weren’t cheap. Would’ve been better off with a McDonald’s “poor person’s meal” 🍟. Southern France gets dark so early now—before 6 PM, it’s pitch-black, so we just went back to the hotel. 🌞 Day 2: Hôtel-Dieu → Cathédrale La Major → Palais Longchamp → Train Station Hôtel-Dieu: Houses several small exhibitions with artifacts from ancient Mediterranean civilizations, ancient Egypt, Africa, Oceania, and Mexico. Impressive for its size! Here’s a cute Egyptian mongoose exhibit 🦝. Cathédrale La Major Lunch was at a Vietnamese restaurant near Palais Longchamp—delicious 🍜! Palais Longchamp: Gorgeous! It’s part of a park with a small museum; there’s also an art gallery and observatory nearby. (Sadly), we ran out of time to visit them 😕. Overall, it was a solid trip. If I have time, I’d go back to check out what we missed… after all, there aren’t that many places to visit in southern France.❤️ #MarseilleTravel #SouthernFranceTrip #Marseille#MarseilleFood #FutureMichelinStar #ProvenceEats #MarseilleDining
