A Mining-Themed Restaurant on the Mountainside 🏔️⚒️
I’d always been drawn to the post-industrial vibe of this place whenever I drove past the foot of the hills—finally made it there with friends recently: Pomona Valley Mining Company~ 🏔️ This restaurant has been around for almost 50 years. It was built in 1977 by the local Frick family. Since the area was originally a mining district, they leaned into the “Gold Rush” aesthetic—so much so that the interior is decorated with actual relics from old mines. Walking in feels like stepping back into the era when California was all about digging for gold. 📍 Perched on the mountainside, the terrace overlooks the whole Pomona Valley. Especially romantic at sunset—the city lights spread out like golden dust ✨. 🥗 Let’s start with a plus: their Salad Bar is All You Can Eat 🥬🍅! There’s a variety of salads, soups, and more—classic “old-school American” style, but quite generous. 🍷 The wine list is pretty limited. We ordered a Zinfandel and a Malbec. If you’re serious about wine, you might be a bit disappointed. 🥩 Tried the signature Prime Rib—huge portion, but the meat and flavor were just okay. If you’re a Prime Rib fan, I’d recommend Summit House instead—more tender and flavorful. 🍸 The real surprise was the bar downstairs! Spacious, great atmosphere, and the beer and cocktail selection is even better than upstairs—perfect for a post-dinner drink. 🪨 In summary: View 8.5/10 | Vibe 9/10 | Food 6/10 | Drinks 5/10 | Salad Bar 7.5/10 Great for a date or hanging out with friends. Pick a relaxed evening, have a drink on the mountain, watch the sunset, and soak in that rustic-industrial romance 😏. #ScenicDining #HiddenGemEatery #LosAngeles #LALife #LAFood #LAEastSide #LAEastSideEats #CaliforniaLife #LARestaurants #GoldRushVibes #ThrowbackDining #MiningTheme #SunsetViews #SaladBarHeaven #ClassicCalifornia
