I've been a long-standing fan of the Pomona Valley Mining Company - going on 40 years, actually, given that the first time I remember going there was around my 10th birthday, when I started requesting steakhouse-dinners instead of pizza-parties, and boy did I make the right decision, lol...
Christmas Dinner has become an increasing difficulty to negotiate for my family, recently, but I think we've found the perfect solution in the P.V.M.C.'s Holiday Brunch.
From the moment we arrived, the staff excelled at setting up our table (which we had to reduce from a party of 9 to 6, due to various health concerns, and were met with zero question or lag) and corralling us all to to our dining location.
Brunch at the Mining Company is as extravagant as you might imagine, with every section of the restaurant turned into a veritable smorgasbord of culinary wonders, their classic salad bar enhanced with the addition of fresh, raw shrimp (cocktail sauce available for those who want it), a perpetual offering of snow-crab, and perfectly cooked mussels in an oil-and-garlic sauce that you'll want to share amongst the rest of the plate.
Throughout the rest of the spread, you will find every menu-item that you have ever hoped to try there, ranging from some of the most perfect "plain" scrambled eggs (read: full of rich, melted cheddar cheese layered throughout) you've ever had (alongside crisp bacon and rich, snappy sausage links) to a full omelette-bar, where you can curate the perfect concoction of ingredients to be expertly assembled and dropped onto your growing plate of delights.
Prime rib is sliced according your direction and added, with as generous a helping of au jus as you care to pour on either the plate directly (you should) or the ramekins they offer for all your condiment-related desires.
Have I mentioned the ribs? Both beef and St. Louis Pork are offered, and they will absolutely inevitably fall off the bone into some other dish, only to be discovered later as a surprise flashback from this culinary journey.
One particular standout I feel the need to mention is the Menudo: I have never had tripe so perfectly cooked, and those who have disliked the dish in the past due to this ingredient would do well to give it another go - it's just tender and flavorful, with barely any chew...
The drinks are generous and bottomless, and they have a couple of self-serve licuado stations set up (orange-juice and fruit punch; both delicious) for immediate refreshment.
The service is impeccable, and our server, Regina, was as capable as they were charismatic, agreeing to take our party's picture (see below) whilst balancing all of the various juggling-acts they had going on at the time... and if you do happen to have a span between courses, just soak up that panoramic view!
All-in-all, I think our family has just discovered a new Christmas tradition, and my only concern is that I might have to make a reservation even earlier next year, if it becomes half as popular as it deserves to be, lol... the best news is that they apparently (amazingly) do this every weekend, so if you have the extremely reasonable $45/plate (children negotiable; I don't remember the details - and they also have bottomless Mimosas, so...), I am giving this Brunch an 11/10 - would highly recommend.
Merry Christmas to all, and to P.V.M.C., thank you for making us all feel...
Read moreAtmosphere was nice, it was dim, not too loud and the view was nice especially at night.
The service was friendly-ish and attentive. I had asked for silverware from another server and she was not as nice as my server. My server was super sweet and nice. I was hoping to have a great experience given the reviews on Google but it was overall, okay.
I ordered the ribeye medium well with garlic mash and asparagus. Entrees and sides are sold separately, but you have access to a basic salad and soup bar. The asparagus was perfectly salted and there was a nice crunch to the veggies still. The garlic mash was on the thicker side and it was on the dryer side. The cheese bread that comes complimentary was not good. Super basic, nothing special. The steak came out super medium. When the steak arrived I cut into it after ten minutes of receiving it cus I was sipping on my old fashiondrink (one of the best thing I had there) and eating my salad and soup. When I cut into the steak it was medium. I tried eating the end of my steak as it tends to be the thinnest part of the steak, but it was too bloody and soft for me (my preference hence why I ordered medium well).
It was pretty busy so by the time the server came by, 20 mins had passed. I informed the server and she apologized and sent my steak back. Usually when this occurs, my steak is tossed and a new one is cooked because the integrity of the meat just isn’t the same after it’s been cooked and sitting for a while. When the steak came back the manager gave me my steak. I saw that my steak was reheated as the manager said my plate was still hot. I could see that the area I had previously cut was medium well. When I ate my steak, it was fine, but when I cut into my steak again it was still medium. I decided to cut into the rest of my steak to see if any of the other pieces were med-well and it wasn’t. By the time staff came around again I asked for a box to take it home for my dog. She brought me my bill and I was ready to pay…I did inform staff that the steak was still Medium and only the pieces I had I cut was medium well, the rest was not to my liking. She informed the manager and the manager came to ask if I didn’t see it earlier when he brought me my steak…I kindly replied that I did…I thought it was fine but learned that only the area I had cut was to my liking. The rest was not. I said I only wanted to inform them cus the next person might not be as nice. The manager said he’ll discount my steak which I said it was fine I’ll pay for it. Overall, I would not come back here. If you want to have a view for dinner I would say come and try it out...
Read moreCame in tonight for our first time around 6/6:30. There was a female and male hostess, the male was making me laugh and joking around, it was nice! The female was giving attitude to my boyfriend right away because he was adamant about wanting a window table since our son is used to a high chair and has never used a booster which we would've had to use at the booth table. She kept laughing at us to our face when we were saying we need a table and not a booth as if we were completely annoying her and not listening to her. They said "okay right this way" and the guy host brings us to a booth and we again asked for a table because we needed a high chair and not a booster. He said he will go ask. The girl comes and says to us "lemme explain this to you once again since you guys clearly don't understand, window seats are for reservations only" as soon as she said that I told her that she is disrespectful and to tone it down a notch. She said "I'm not being disrespectful" and continued being extremely condescending with a big smile on her face. She then told us to move because she needed to seat people at the table we were standing at and I asked her to go get her manager and we will wait for him right here. She again told us to leave the area and was making a scene in front of many customers walking by. She went to go get the manager and is talking to him about the situation at the kitchen window. He comes and is actually kind & professional and tries his best to get us a table and handled it exactly how a manager should. I was very appreciative of that because I'm over 7 months pregnant and she really upset me and I wanted to leave the restaurant but my boyfriend wanted to stay. We eventually settle for a booth and a booster seat because the wait was too long for a table. I went to use the restroom and came out and it was only the girl and the manager there and so I went up and told him what had happened and what she said to us. She lied and said she didn't say that. She had a completely different tone and was being very quiet all of a sudden that the manager is around. He listened and showed concern and that's all I can ask. I went and sat down and needless to say my son got up out of the booster seat over ten times because there were no seatbelts and he's never used one before. Which is why we wanted a table with a high chair haha. But thank you to the manager if it wasn't for him I would've felt so unwelcomed and...
