A Once-Forgotten French Ancient Town – Pérouges

Pérouges is a small town located northeast of Lyon, France. Perched on a hilltop, the entire town is built with rocks, cobblestones, and wood, earning it the nickname "Stone Town" 🏰 Lyon isn’t big—it’s divided into the old town and the new town, connected by bridges. On a nice day, it’s perfect for a city walk, wandering around, or sunbathing by the Saône River. Many places are within walking distance, but you can also buy a one-day transit card. The specific route plan is in P2-3 to avoid backtracking.😊 Legend has it that it was first built by Gauls fleeing from Rome. To this day, it still retains the ancient architectural style of the 15th century and has served as a filming location for many French costume dramas 🎬. It is among the 100 most beautiful towns in France. Until the end of the 18th century, this town thrived due to its textile industry. However, with the development of industrial revolution-era towns, its prosperity faded, and the population dwindled sharply. Pérouges once fell into decline, but fortunately, the mayor of Lyon promoted its revival. This stone town was restored and thus took on its current appearance ✨. This place doesn't care about fancy plating—it's like home - cooked food, relying entirely on skill. You have to taste it to understand. We were stuffed after eating all this, plus two drinks, and it only cost 72€. Super cheap—definitely the cheapest restaurant I've eaten at these days!! 💰Hope it stays open; I'll definitely come back next time I'm in Lyon.😊 Today, Pérouges has become a charming tourist attraction. Wandering through this medieval town away from the hustle and bustle, walking on the bluestone roads laid hundreds of years ago, it feels like time has reversed and the past has been brought back to life ⏳. #Lyon #LyonFood #BouchonRestaurant#CharterTour #EuropeanTravel #France #Medieval #FrenchTourism #AncientTown #CulturalAttractionShare
