Adelaide|Summer Vacation in January ⛱️

This is my second time in Australia, and I finally got to slow down and truly experience the country 😌. January is summertime here, and with its Mediterranean-like climate, South Australia is blessed with blazing sunshine yet refreshingly cool breezes 🌞🍃. We stayed at my husband’s family’s house and spent several fulfilling days (1/25–1/30). Here’s a little recap 📖: Day 1: Arrived in the afternoon and took a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood near Botanic Garden (ended up going for a run there the next morning 🏃‍♀️). Saw a tree full of 🦇—they were chirping and nesting, but it didn’t feel disturbing. Instead, it felt like a fascinating ecological balance 🌿. That night, we drank a lot—white wine, red wine, beer, whiskey—and fell asleep happily tipsy 🥂😴. Day 2: Public holiday, so many places were closed 🚪. Went to a big suburban market that only operates open-air on Sunday mornings. So much fresh fruit—even saw (water spinach) and winter melon! 🍉🫒 In the afternoon, visited Woolworths 🛒. Couldn’t resist the cheese, milk, and cookies 🍪—decided to forget about dieting for these few days 🙈. Day 3: Saw the ocean 🌊, visited the d’Arenberg Cube winery and McLaren Vale 🍇. South Australia is definitely not just about Penfolds—it’s so easy to find a red wine that suits your taste 😉. Between the valleys, the wineries, and the seaside, it’s easy to find a sense of calm 🧘‍♀️❤️. Day 4: Handled errands in the city in the morning 📑, then spent the afternoon walking around the CBD 🏙️. The Central Market was smaller than I imagined but very lively—full of classic Western foods 🧀. Had delicious pizza and Oreo cake here 🍰😋. Also wandered through Chinatown 🥢, shopping streets, the Art Gallery of South Australia 🖼️, and the museum. Crossed through the University of Adelaide campus too 🎓. The population density here is just perfect 👌. Day 5: Hahndorf German Village is an adorable little town 🏡. Had the famous Haus pork knuckle platter—fresh out of the oven and super crispy! The portion was huge though—the cheese sausage in the platter was the best 🍖👍. Unfortunately, the popular ice cream shop was closed 🍦😢. In the afternoon, walked along Melbourne Street and accidentally stepped into a Vietnamese restaurant… the bizarre noodle salad was impressively bad 😂❌. Day 6: The Botanic Garden was beautiful—mostly visited by silver-haired grandparents 👵👴. The water lilies were gorgeous 🪷💮. Ran from home to the garden and back—less than 6km round trip, and the scenery along the way made the run anything but boring 🏞️💨. So many moments not captured: like the reliably delicious fruits 🍓🍊, the huge farms 🌾, the friendly white husky 🐾, fresh salmon twice 🐟, and all the amazing home-cooked meals 🍲😍. It’s been a long time since I slowed down and lived like a local somewhere. Often, rushing is a mindset we choose, not a necessity 🧠💬. New year, new goal: let’s all live a little more chill. 🥳✨ #Australia #TravelAustralia #Adelaide #Wine #SouthAustralia
