Alaska Travel Diary ⑧ Juneau Adventure (Part 1)
Day 7 - June 17 We wolfed down breakfast (steamed veggies and corn I made for hubby) before rushing to catch our Alaska Airlines flight to Juneau. Their planes are outdated, but the free WiFi, movies, drinks (water/Coke), and snack packs made the flight decent. 💸 Baggage Note: Free checked bags for intra-Alaska flights, but we paid $30/bag for our outbound flight ($120 total). Not sure if this is standard for US airlines (like United/Delta) or just budget carrier vibes (think Spring Airlines/HK Express). 🍔 Lunch near the airport was forgettable—hubby’s "Kung Pao Chicken" burger was disastrous. Then we Ubered downtown ($30+, 30 mins). Our driver, a newbie Uber auntie (on her 3rd day!), shared she’s a hospital worker doing this for extra cash. Hubby chatted while I gaped at Juneau’s stunning blue skies—apparently, it was stormy just a day earlier (per gloomy Xiaohongshu posts). We lucked out with t-shirt weather all 3 days! 🏙️ Downtown Juneau is a long, narrow strip of gift shops, jewelry stores, and restaurants. We checked into Ramada (super cruise-convenient—5 mins to port), then hit Main Street twice. Haul: fridge magnets + a wooden postcard. 🐻 Fun Fact: Downtown trash bins are bear-proof (locked!). Locals said bears raid garbage. Hubby struggled to open them at first—meanwhile, I wished I’d seen a bear! Also noticed many Filipino and Indigenous Alaskan faces (their crafts are unique—bought one as a gift). 🚡 Tourist Trap Alert: The Goldbelt Tram ($45 for a 1-minute ride? Hard pass.). 🌃 Dinner at Ramada’s restaurant: Creamy soup + salmon plate + medium-well steak (unphotographed—devoured instantly). Bad idea: steak triggered my all-night stomachache (thank god for hubby’s meds!). Insomnia perk: a midnight view of Juneau’s still-bright skies (last pic). 📌 Verdict: Juneau’s downtown is doable in 2 hours. Why did I plan 3 days here? #AlaskaSummerTravel #JuneauDiaries #BearCountry #CruiseLife #TravelRegrets 🏔️🦀
