An Argentine BBQ Journey: The Delicious Tomahawk Steak 🥩🔥
Restaurant: Gaucho Grill Argentine Steakhouse 📍 Multiple locations – I visited the West Covina one 🕒 Hours: Daily 11 AM – 10 PM Cuisine: Argentine Price: | 6 people, ~$65–75 per person (excluding drinks) Went with friends on a Saturday to try this well-reviewed Argentine steakhouse. No reservation needed, but it’s wise to call ahead during holidays. 🗓️📞 Online reviews highlighted their Tomahawk steak, smoked meat platter, and seafood paella as specialties—we tried them all, plus sides. Here’s my take: Recommended 👍 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Tomahawk Steak A sizable cut, tender and juicy. We ordered it medium-rare. Definitely the star of the meal—though a bit salty, likely from coarse salt sprinkled on top. We asked for it pre-sliced, so no full tomahawk photo 🥩✨. Comes with two side dishes (more on those below). ⭐️⭐️ Seafood Paella It was okay, but nothing extraordinary. Not as fragrant as the paella I’ve had at Malbec. The rice was softer and used a different grain. Still works as a main dish—flavor is decent overall. 🥘 Not Recommended 👎 ⭐️ Smoked Meat Platter Ordered medium-well, but the meat came out tough and chewy—not sure if it was the cut or overcooked. A large plate of mixed meats and sausages topped with an onion flower and half a pepper. Too messy, lacking distinction, and not tasty. 🍖🙅♀️ ⭐️⭐️ Mussels They claim to have the best mussels, but they were just average. Not frozen, but not super fresh either. Flavor was acceptable, but I wouldn’t recommend. 🐚 Side Dishes We Tried: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Corn Purée 🌽 The best side! A must-order—creamy like mashed potatoes but sweet and not heavy. ⭐️⭐️ Mashed Potatoes 🥔 – Standard, nothing special. ⭐️ Grilled Vegetable Platter 🥗 Not recommended—just a mix of roasted potatoes, taro, sweet potato, and zucchini. The zucchini was surprisingly bitter. 😖 ⭐️⭐️ French Fries 🍟 – Pretty standard. Drinks: Only the beer and Mojito Virgin were decent. The regular Mojito, Margarita, and Martini were not good! 🍸🚫 Overall: Only the Tomahawk steak stood out; everything else was mediocre. This place isn’t as good as Malbec, though I’m not sure if Malbec serves tomahawk. If you’re craving a solid tomahawk steak, this spot is worth a try. #LosAngeles #FoodDiary #RestaurantReview #FoodReview #ArgentinianCuisine #TomahawkSteak #BBQPlatter #WesternFood #MeatLovers #SeafoodPaella #Steakhouse #WestCovinaEats #GauchoGrill #DiningExperience #EatLikeAGaucho
