Anchorage Princess Cruise Glacier Guide (Part 1) β„οΈπŸš’

This time, I took the route from Vancouver to Anchorage (Whittier) β€” a perfect mix of cruise and tours! πŸŒŠβ›°οΈ In total, we visited 5 glaciers along the way. πŸ”οΈ Juneau The first glacier was Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau. We viewed it from the waterfall lookout β€” no landing or whale watching this time. (More details in my previous post!) 🌲 Glacier Bay National Park This was definitely the highlight of the trip! ✨ The cruise offered views of two stunning glaciers: Margerie Glacier ❄️ Lamplugh Glacier πŸ’™ The ship didn’t stay as long as I expected, so make sure to go out early for photos! If you arrive at Glacier Bay during the day, views start as early as 6 AM. β˜€οΈ πŸ›οΈ College Fjord The last glacier seen from the ship was Harvard Glacier in College Fjord β€” absolutely breathtaking! πŸ“Έ Since the ship points its bow/stern toward the glacier, it can be tricky to take photos. A great spot to enjoy the view is on Deck 14 at the bow railing of the Princess ship β€” it’s safe (no worries about dropping your phone!), you can sit on the pillars at point B when tired, and point C offers shade. Perfect combo! 🚒😎 🧊 Portage Glacier The final glacier of the trip was Portage Glacier, seen on the way back to Anchorage β€” a glacial lake that feels almost tailored for cruise tourists. It gets mixed reviews, but I’m totally weak for that milky-green iceberg-filled water πŸ’šβ€¦ plus, the tour boat goes within 100 meters of the ice! Totally worth it in my book. No matter how windy it was in the valley, the moment we neared the glacier, everything turned still and peaceful β€” even the rain stopped. πŸŒ§οΈβž‘οΈπŸ™‚ πŸ’‘ Little Tips: The cruise ship stays pretty far from the glaciers. I originally planned to go kayaking at Knik Glacier after… We docked at 7:50 AM and started toward Anchorage at 8:40 AM β€” still enough time! But sadly, things came up and we missed it. 😒 If you can, book a helicopter tour in Juneau or Skagway (Princess dock time is long enough!) or spend extra days in Anchorage. Getting up close to floating ice or going hiking is a must β€” don’t make your schedule as tight as mine! Oh, and light blue clothing looks amazing in glacier photos! πŸ“ΈπŸ’™ #Alaska #Anchorage #AlaskaTravel #GlacierCruise #PrincessCruise #TravelTips #GlacierBay #VisitAlaska 🌍🧊🚒
