Anchorage Sushi Spot | Yamaya Seafood 🍣
The food here is genuinely good — probably among the best sushi you can find in Anchorage… but the dining experience might require some “mental preparation”✨ The owner is an older Japanese gentleman who plays Showa-era tunes in the background 🎵, humming along while casually preparing sushi at his own pace. We were the only two customers that night and ordered around $200 worth of food — and it took him from 6:30pm all the way until 9:13pm to finish, nearly two and a half hours⏳. When we asked to add more dishes, he exclaimed in shock: “What?!😱” The ingredients are fresh and the skills are solid, but this “slow-and-steady” pace is best suited for those with plenty of time who want to soak in the nostalgic Showa vibe. 🍣 Why go? ✅ Fresh fish, authentic seasoning ✅ Unique atmosphere — feels like a time capsule to the Showa period ✅ One-man show by the chef — true artisan spirit ⚠️ Heads up: Allow plenty of time (at least 2–3 hours) Make reservations for groups of 3+ Don’t go if you’re in a rush or extremely hungry If you’re visiting Anchorage with time to spare, consider stopping by to support this hardworking chef — he’s definitely not ready to retire yet👨🍳💪 #AnchorageFood #AlaskaSushi #HiddenGem #ShowaVibes #FoodAdventure
