ATL Eats: Japanese BBQ Buffet Review 🍖
Restaurant: Chubby Cattle BBQ | Duluth Finally opened! I never got to visit the downtown location, but I’ve already been to the Duluth spot twice — the first visit thanks to an invite from the team, and the second to refuel after a trip to Paris! 😂 Both times, I chose the Diamond set. Taste: The meat quality is exceptional, especially the special meats (limited to two per person). The otoro felt a bit too rich for me—almost overwhelming—but the top blade was perfectly marbled and delicious! 🥩 For special dishes, the scallops are a must-try: sweet, plump, and flavorful. From the hot dishes, I tried the chawanmushi (steamed egg) and tom yum soup on the first visit—both were rich and satisfying. On my second visit, I tried the rice soup with meat, which was surprisingly tasty with a mild spicy kick and tender meat cooked right in the broth. My favorite meat item is the Australian Wagyu shoulder with egg yolk dip—so flavorful, though it’s a bit tricky to grill yourself! 😅 Also, don’t miss the cheesy sweet potato and king oyster mushrooms from the buffet section—one’s a sweet treat, the other helps balance the richness. The menu seems to update often too; compared to last week, they’ve added chicken cartilage with delicious Orleans-style seasoning—highly recommend! Ambiance: The interior is sleek and bright, even more so than the hot pot spot across the street! The built-in ventilation around the grill helps minimize smoke, making it much more comfortable than charcoal grilling. One small note: the layout near the sauce station has a few tight corners, so it can get a little crowded during peak hours. Service: Service has been great both times! On my first visit, I spotted some familiar faces from their hot pot restaurant — though I missed out on ordering the Oscar special! 😄 Initially, the staff helped grill everything, but they seemed quite busy—especially since Wagyu requires careful attention. Now, they’ve adjusted: staff grill the premium meats, then guests take over. It’s nice to control the pace, though I admit I’m a slow griller! 😆 Final Thoughts: Definitely worth trying! The meat quality is consistent across sets, with the main differences being the special meats and dishes. Compared to Wagyu hot pot, the BBQ style feels richer since grilling locks in the fat—so be sure to pair it with veggies to balance it out! 🥬 #AtlantaEats #JapaneseBBQ #ChubbyCattle #Wagyu #AllYouCanEat #DuluthEats #Foodie #BBQ #AtlantaFood #BuffetTime #GrillAndChill
