Bali cuisine
This is my second trip to Bali, and I’ve explored new horizons with Bebek (duck dishes). 🍔 The duck here is so delicious 🤤—a flavor I still crave even after returning to Australia. Ranked in order of preference:🍣 🍒 Sasanti Restaurant Yogyakarta Who would’ve thought the best duck dish would be in Yogyakarta! This is the legendary restaurant visited by Obama. The duck is fried then coated in sauce—super crispy and tender! 🍺 🥜Their Bekso (meatball soup) is also amazing; I refilled my bowl right after finishing the first. The skewers, fried rice, and curry are great too. As my first meal in Indonesia, it left me thoroughly satisfied. 🥘 The funniest part is the restroom—you have to check it out for a surprising little discovery, haha. Bebek Bengil Ubud True to its reputation as Ubud’s go-to spot for dirty duck, the duck is grilled until it melts in your mouth. There are four flavors, but crispy is still the best, and the green sauce version is good too. We each ordered a plate and still wanted more. Dining in a (pavilion) on tatami mats with a breeze on summer nights is lovely—daytime visits probably offer better views.🥔 Omma Dayclub Bali Ubud The food at this dayclub is surprisingly fantastic! The dirty duck is beautifully plated and just as tasty as other spots.🧀🧀 🍍The side dishes are totally different from elsewhere, making for a fresh experience. You must try “The Dragon Bowl”—it feels healthy and organic, and the price is a steal compared to Australia! Using the pre-paid venue fee for food works perfectly.😁😁 There are also lots of activities like swings and a waterfall area for relaxation.👉👈 4⃣️ Pundi-pundi Asian & Grill Restaurant, Ubud This place is actually known for pork ribs, but my love for duck made me order it anyway. The pork ribs are worth trying—smothered in sauce, perfect for sharing (though they get a bit fatty if you overindulge, even for someone like me who avoids fatty meat).🍒 🌭The dirty duck is decent: the skin is slightly crispy when served, and the meat is tender. The water spinach here was fought over by everyone—we were clearly lacking veggies. There’s a donut shop right outside worth a try.🍩 5⃣️ Sun Sun Warung Ubud After days of Indonesian food, I was starting to feel overwhelmed, but this place’s vibrant, colorful dishes still sparked my appetite. Nasi Campur Adam (a mixed rice platter) includes all the signature dishes and is way better than the one in Yogyakarta! Having gone too long without dessert, I ordered fried bananas—soft, (glutinous), and sweet, which made my dessert-loving heart sing. 🥞🥞 The fried noodles and rice are tasty too, though served on wooden plates that took up so much space, there was no room left on our small table for our own plates. 🥠 The duck here was underwhelming, though—too dry, not as impressive as previous ones.🥗🥗 🍄🍄 This was also the cheapest meal we had, and dining in an Indonesian family’s backyard was a first-time experience. #DirtyDuck #UbudBali #Yogyakarta #BaliFood
