Beacon of Justice
☀️Though I did not enter, simply standing at the entrance of Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church allowed me to feel the immense weight of history concentrated in this place. ☀️This unassuming red-brick church stands just steps away from the Alabama State Capitol—the former served as the birthplace of the Civil Rights Movement, while the latter was where the Confederacy was declared. 🌈Though physically close, they symbolize a nation’s dual trajectory of self-division and redemption. 🌈In 1954, a 25-year-old Martin Luther King Jr. began his pastorship here, nurturing the spark of nonviolent resistance from its pulpit. 🥳Today, the stained-glass windows still cast light as they did in his time, as though echoing Dr. King’s voice across the decades: "Justice delayed is not justice denied." 💗A bronze plaque embedded in the church’s outer wall bears these words: "We do not only remember history—we carry forward its unfinished work." 💗 Not far away, on the grounds of the State Capitol, though the Confederate flag has been removed, inscriptions defending slavery remain carved into the stone steps. #CivilRightsMovement #HistoricalLandmark #SpiritualBeacon
