Bombay Beach|LA’s Version of Laputa: A Hidden Gem in the Desert 🌵✨
After thinking about it for way too long, my friends and I finally made the trip to this mysterious little town—and wow, it did not disappoint! Located about 🚗 3 hours from Los Angeles, it’s the perfect add-on if you’re already heading to Salvation Mountain. Trust me, you’ll want to stop here! ⚠️ Heads up, though: 👉 Don’t come with typical tourist expectations—this isn’t a typical attraction. It’s more like a “desert art playground.” 👉 There’s a bit of a funky smell in the air (thanks, Salton Sea 😅), so just be mentally prepared. 👉 BUT! It’s absolutely perfect for photos. Every corner offers post-apocalyptic, artsy vibes. 📸 📸 Must-Take Photo Spots: • The retro phone booth ☎️ • The “anywhere door” in the middle of nowhere 🚪 • Art installations like abandoned couches 🛋️ • The iconic “Bombay Beach” ground logo ✨ Pro tip: Shoot during golden hour—the sunset light makes everything magical! 🌅 🌵 Vibe of the Town: Bombay Beach has a tiny population of around 200 people, many of whom are artists. You’ll see graffiti, sculptures, and wild installations everywhere. Make sure to stop by the one and only local bar and restaurant, Ski Inn, for a bite to eat and yes… the only public restroom around! 🍔🚽 🌞 Important Tips: • Summer temps can hit 40°C (104°F)! Wear sunscreen, a hat, and light clothing. • Bring plenty of water—stay hydrated, folks! 💧 • Just type “Bombay Beach Drive In” into your GPS, and it’ll lead you right to the entrance. ✨ Final thoughts: It might not be for everyone, but if you’re into dystopian aesthetics, urban decay, and Insta-worthy art—this place is pure heaven.
