Boston|Lan Feast – A Meal That Was “Just OK but Happy”
Invited by an OG grandma I met in Chinatown, we went to Lan Feast in Brookline for a meal! Grandma said, “This place is pretty popular lately—gotta give it a try~” So I tagged along. Though the food ended up being a bit disappointing, because Grandma enjoyed herself, the meal was still perfect ❤️ The overall ambiance is nice—bright, modern space, and the servers were all especially friendly~ Even though it was crowded that day, the food came out pretty quickly. However, the crowd leaned more toward “corporate gatherings” and “business dinners,” with quite a few non-Asian guests. It’s better suited for group dining and not really recommended for solo food adventures. Prices are around $30–50 per person (about the same per head), which is a bit on the pricey side 😅 I’d give this meal a 5.5 / 10—mainly because the flavors weren’t very consistent, but the overall experience was still okay~ 🍜 Dish Highlights Lanzhou Hand-Pulled Beef Noodles (extra thin) The noodles weren’t thin or chewy enough, the broth was mild, and overall it lacked depth. Sesame Sauce Mixed Noodles The opposite of the above—too salty, with the salt completely overpowering the sesame aroma. Chilled Okra Salad Refreshing and appetizing, tasty! Though nothing particularly surprising~ Stir-Fried Celery with Lily Bulbs Standard, light in flavor—probably the “safest” dish at the table. Tea-Fragrant Crispy Chicken My favorite of the night! Crispy skin, fresh tea fragrance, not greasy~ But at $35+, a bit pricey 🥲 Osmanthus Taro Ball Dessert Sweet, chewy, with full osmanthus fragrance 🌼 💬 In Summary This restaurant feels more like “casual business-style Chinese dining.” ✅ Good service, comfortable setting—suitable for hosting, gatherings, or bringing elders ❌ Not really recommended for “food hunting” or “searching for authentic flavors” 🌿 If you do go, I suggest ordering: Tea-Fragrant Crispy Chicken + Chilled Okra Salad + Osmanthus Taro Ball Dessert For carbs, just add a bowl of noodles or rice :) #BostonFoodDiscovery #BostonChineseFood #LanzhouNoodles #BrooklineEats #FamilyMeal #BusinessCasualChinese
