California Food Diary—LA Eats Disappointment 😞
Avra Estiatorio Located in Beverly Hills I was initially drawn in by the impressive display of fresh fish at the back of the restaurant—so my expectations were sky-high! But in the end, my impression was: overpriced and underwhelming. (Maybe I just don’t have a taste for upscale dining? 🐷💔) Warm Pita & Hummus 🌟🌟🌟🌟 The warm pita bread served with hummus was delicious! A solid and flavorful start. East & West Coast Oysters 🌟🌟 They had oysters from both coasts on the menu—I ordered three of each. Honestly, I couldn’t tell the difference. Worse—some had sand and tasted a bit fishy 😢 Lobster Pasta 🌟🌟🌟 It was okay—just your standard lobster pasta. Not as good as what I’ve had in Boston. Lamb Chops 🌟 The biggest letdown! Three small chops for around $60–70… and they were tough and bland. Green Salad 🌟🌟🌟 Nothing special—just a basic salad. Fried Eggplant 🌟🌟 Fancy tempura? Didn’t taste particularly special. Sea Bass 🌟🌟 (if I remember correctly) You can pick your fish from the display and choose how it’s cooked. We went with their classic preparation. Result? Bland and a bit dry—maybe it’s meant to be “pure and natural,” but it didn’t work for me. Cocktails 🌟🌟🌟🌟 The server recommended two—one lemon-based, one strawberry (forgot the names). These were actually really good! Refreshing and balanced. 🍸 Final bill for five people: over $600 💸 Per person: $100+ Won’t be returning.
