Chicago 2025 Restaurant Week: First StopβEsme π
This year's Esme menu can be seen on page 2. Business was booming during Restaurant Week, but the experience had a few misses. β¨ First Course: Both served together (p3 & 4) - Salad πππ Ricotta cheese as the base, topped with salad leaves, tangy yuzu peel, and crispy bread chips, garnished with almond flakes and drizzled with olive oil. A bit underwhelming. - Cheeto ππππ The oversized Cheeto is their signatureβa delicious snack. Eating it plain, the spicy cheese powder can be a bit salty, but dipping it in the sweet onion sauce is perfect. This dish kept us full tonight! β¨ Second Course: Choose one (p5) - Foie Gras ππππ Smooth foie gras mousse with nice pumpkin and basil sauces. It meets the Michelin one-star standard. - Consomme π The worst of the night. The broth is extremely salty with barely any ingredients. The star is only for the soft, fluffy bread. β¨ Third Course: Choose one (p6) - Pithivier πππ Served like a Wellington steak, but the pastry crust isn't very flaky. The dish features two types of Wagyu short ribβhalf is slow-cooked, and the other half has a smoky or herbal flavor. There's also a slice of pineapple at the bottom. The layers are overly complex and hard to understand. - Sunchoke Agnolotti ππππ Italian dumplings with pesto, Parmesan cheese, and black truffle. The flavors are rich and aromatic, which is quite nice. β¨ Dessert: (p7) - Chocolate Cremeux πππ An artistic dessert. After cracking the sugar shell, there's a piece of chocolate cake inside, topped with raspberries and hazelnut crumbs. The chocolate cake is quite ordinary and overly sweet. The sugar shell is actually better than the cake itself. It looks good but doesn't taste great. β¨ Cocktail: (p8) - Esme Spirits πππ A fruity and sweet drink, not bad. - Paw Paw Negroni ππππ The gin flavor is prominent, smooth on the palate, and has a rich, layered taste. The Restaurant Week deal is $60 for three courses at a Michelin one-star restaurant. Whether it's worth it depends on personal preference. The restaurant has a bright, cozy atmosphere with an artistic vibe. The overall service is good, but there's a mandatory 22% service charge. The final cost per person is around $120, for reference. #FoodieArtist #RestaurantInAGallery #PrettifyFood #Chicago #MichelinOneStar #ChicagoEats #ChicagoMichelin #RestaurantWeekGuide
