🚇 Chicago Day Trip: Oak Park 🏛️
Getting There: From downtown Chicago, take the Green Line to Oak Park—it's about a 30-minute ride. 🚆 For downtown Oak Park: Get off at the Harlem/Lake terminal. For Frank Lloyd Wright's buildings: Get off at Oak Park station—it's a shorter walk. 🏠 Frank Lloyd Wright Tour 🏛️ Wright's architecture here is definitely worth seeing! There's an approximately one-hour guided tour of his Home and Studio. Style: The interior decoration beautifully showcases his Prairie School style. The house is relatively low, and the decor features many Japanese elements. 🎋 The Ginkgo Tree: There's a magnificent ginkgo tree in the front yard. When it was first planted, it was only as thick as a cup; now it has grown into a towering giant 🌳. Tour Info: Purchase: Tickets can be bought online or at the adjacent gift shop. Options: Tour only the Home and Studio. Tour the Home and Studio plus additional buildings. (Prices vary) Schedule: Very flexible, with tours typically leaving every 20 minutes. Our Experience: We were lucky to have Ian, an excellent volunteer guide. He was extremely thorough, and our tour lasted nearly an hour and a half! (He and his wife live nearby and volunteer as guides here.) 📚 Hemingway Museum ⚠️ A small rant: We visited the Hemingway Museum, which supposedly closes at 5 PM. However, when we arrived at 4:10 PM, the staff literally locked the door in front of us and drove away! ⏰ Tip: If you want to visit, make sure to arrive early! 🍣 Food & Fun 🍺 Churches: Oak Park has a remarkable concentration of churches—each one is different but equally beautiful. Oktoberfest: We happened to visit during a lively Oktoberfest celebration! 🍺 The crowds were concentrated in the downtown area. Dinner: We ended up eating at Sushi House. Overall, it was excellent except for being a bit pricey. Recommendation: The Dragon Roll was delicious, and they even used a blowtorch for preparation! 🔥 Special: They also have an "Annual Roll" special. #Chicago #OakPark #FrankLloydWright #Hemingway #DayTrip #ChicagoFood #Sushi #NorthAmericaTravel
