Chicago Restaurant Exploration | The Undisputed Ceiling of Steakhouses
Bavette’s Bar & Boeuf can undoubtedly be considered an evergreen in Chicago’s culinary scene. For years, it has maintained a top spot on various charts with a super-high rating, and the difficulty of getting a reservation is on par with Michelin-starred restaurants. After multiple failed attempts, I finally secured a spot on Thanksgiving evening, ready to explore with a group of foodie friends. 🍽️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Dry Aged Bone-in Ribeye Without hesitation, I can say that their Ribeye is probably one of the top-tier steaks I’ve had, second only to Wagyu beef in terms of meat quality and cooking technique. The super crispy crust on the outside with a pink edge to edge inside, the meat is incredibly tender, yet as a dry aged steak, it’s super juicy. The seasoning is spot on. It seems to be cooked using traditional reverse sear followed by a high-heat broiler finish, but every step is executed to perfection. 👍 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spiced Fried Chicken The highlight of the night. Three pieces of classic fried chicken, served with mashed potatoes and topped with gravy. The crunchy exterior and the super juicy, well-seasoned chicken made for an unexpectedly delightful surprise. 🍗 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Short Rib Stroganoff Braised beef short ribs with mushrooms, caramelized onions, and handmade pasta—each bite is incredibly satisfying. Highly recommended! 👍 ‼️🦴 Bone Marrow This dish has polarizing reviews online, with some calling it the highlight of the menu and others finding it too rich. I think it depends on personal taste. If you’re the type who enjoys sucking the marrow out of a big bone, you’ll definitely love it. If you’re not accustomed to this and are trying it based on recommendations, it might not be to your liking. 🦴 In summary: A very old school steakhouse in terms of cooking technique and experience. It’s like stepping into 1950s America in a movie. Every dish, from ingredients to cooking methods, is impeccable. The food is savory and perfect for a Chicago winter. The desserts look old-fashioned but are surprisingly delicious. The whole experience gets a full score of 💯. #ChicagoLife #ChicagoFood #UniversityOfChicago #ChicagoRestaurantExploration #ChicagoFun #ChicagoSurroundings #ChicagoTravel #ChicagoFoodie #ChicagoUSA #AmericanLife #FoodExploration
