Cold weather in Boston requires beef soup š„¹
š² Myung Dong 1st Ave: Allstonās Go-To for Korean SoupāBut Stick to the Broths This is my favorite spot in Allston for Korean soupsāthough fair warning: Itās very hit-or-miss. Come for the broth, skip just about everything else. š„ The Only Must-Orders: Soups Galbi Tang (Short Rib Soup) / Beef Soup / Sundubu Jjigae (Soft Tofu Stew): 5 stars. These are the stars. Galbi tang is my top pickārich, savory broth with tender short ribs that fall off the bone. The beef soup is hearty, and the sundubu? Spicy, creamy, and packed with soft tofu. All warm, comforting, and perfect for cold days. Theyāre so good, they keep me coming backādespite the other menu fails. š The āMehā to āNopeā Gopchang (Intestine): 3 stars, with a warning. Greasy, under-seasoned, and skimpy on portions. Save your moneyāGopchang Story does it way better (and for the same price). Fried Chicken: 4 stars. Itās goodācrispy, juicyābut not better than BBQ Chicken (the Cheesling king). Fine if youāre craving it, but not a reason to visit. Pancake: 1 star. A thick, doughy messāno crispy edges, no flavorful fillings. Skip. Fried Snacks: 3 stars, mostly. Generic, greasy, and forgettable. Nothing to write home about. šØ A Note on Hanmaru Once my go-to for spine bone soup, but a bad experience killed it: Found a piece of cardboard in my bowl. When I told the owner, they brushed it off (glanced and sat back down). Gross, and unprofessionalānever going back. Myung Dong 1st Ave might be inconsistent, but at least the soupās clean. š Verdict This spot is all about the soups. Ignore the rest, and youāll leave happy. Itās no Naksan or KongDog, but for a warm bowl of galbi tang in Allston? Itās my first choice. š Myung Dong 1st Ave: Come for the broth, stay for seconds of the galbi tang. #BostonKoreanSoup #AllstonEats #ComfortFood
