🍣 Columbus Food Visit — Akai Hana Japanese
I’ve eaten at Akai Hana many times — we even went all out with a sushi boat once. Their sushi isn’t amazing, but since Columbus has only one serious Japanese spot, it’s okay for satisfying cravings sometimes. If you’re not just going for novelty, skip the sushi boat. 🍱 Unagi Don (Eel Rice Bowl) Pretty good overall, but watch out for tiny bones. Flavor is decent — note: it’s not on the menu now, so ask the server for “Eel Unadon.” 🐟 King Salmon Big thumbs up! 👍 Freshest and best item here in my opinion — way thicker cuts than what you get at the Tensuke market next door. 🦐 Sweet Shrimp (Amaebi) Ordered excitedly, but they were tiny shrimp, very similar to the ones sold next door. The wasabi was super spicy too — not worth it. All I tasted was heat… 🍥 Scallop Delicious and impressive — so tender and bouncy! 🍤 Shrimp Tempura Sushi Filled with crispy tempura shrimp inside — crunchy and tasty with soy sauce. 🐌 Caterpillar Roll My favorite sushi here! Contains avocado and eel, glazed with teriyaki sauce — creamy avocado meets sweet eel. Highly recommend!! 🥩 Wagyu Beef Quality was just okay — not worth the price. Small portion, thinly sliced. Overall, it’s still a go-to when you’re craving Japanese in Columbus. About $60 per person to feel full. #ColumbusOhio #JapaneseFood #OhioStateUniversity 🍱
