Confused Sugar and Salt 🧂
Went to Little Pan in Irvine today 📍 — came specifically for their mini pan-fried buns! Had been wanting to try them for a while. After being seated, we ordered via QR code and noticed they had millet porridge — happily added it to our order. When the porridge arrived, I wanted to add sugar, so I went to the condiment station. Couldn’t tell which was sugar and which was salt… I thought, "Salt or less-used sugar wouldn’t be in such a big container," so I picked the small jar in the back. I even told my friend, "This is sugar, right?" Then a kind staff member immediately spoke up: "That’s salt! Sugar is in the big jar." So awkward 😂 But so glad they stopped me — otherwise my whole bowl would’ve turned into salty porridge! First time trying Little Pan and I was pleasantly surprised! Compared to many Chinese restaurants, the decor is nice and it feels clean. We ordered the lamb with pickled cabbage vermicelli soup — delicious and packed with lamb. 🥟 Mixed Pan-Fried Buns (6 pieces, 2 of each flavor): original, curry, and seafood. Curry had a mild spice but was tasty. Seafood had big shrimp inside. The bun wrapper was great — thin on top, generous filling, and the bottom was perfectly crispy, almost like fried mantou. Plus, there was soup inside — impressive! 👍 🌯 Beef Roll also recommended — lots of beef, crispy wrapper, sauce well-balanced and not too salty. 👌 Mini Thumb-Sized Buns were the reason we came — super cute! But flavor-wise, the regular-sized ones are better since you get more of that crispy texture. They’re truly tiny — one bite each. We couldn’t finish, so we took some home, and even cold, the bottoms stayed crispy! Overall, solid experience — food is good and the environment is clean. For me, cleanliness is a big factor when choosing Chinese restaurants. Some places just feel… sticky and uninviting, no matter how good the food is 🫠 #LittlePan #Irvine #SoCalEats #IrvineEats #MilletPorridge #PanFriedBuns #MiniBuns
