Dallas | Honest Review of the Hype "No.1 BBQ Spot" πŸ–πŸ”₯

Hey everyone! Today I’m sharing my real, unfiltered experience at No.1 BBQ β€” a locally hyped spot in Plano that’s been blowing up on Xiaohongshu. Let’s see if it lives up to the buzz! 🏠 First Impressions & Vibe Located near the 99 Ranch Market in Plano, this place gives off strong Northeast Chinese vibes. The owner (who sounds like he’s from Dongbei) is super friendly and proudly recommended their Guo Bao Rou (Sweet & Sour Pork) β€” which is even listed on a special regional menu on the wall. The decor is nostalgic and bold β€” red and green everywhere β€” but the space is pretty tight. Not many tables, so expect to wait during peak hours! πŸ₯’ What We Ordered & Honest Thoughts 🐷 Guo Bao Rou – $18.99 We went with the Liaoning-style (one of three versions offered). Flavor: Big on sweet and sour β€” pretty authentic, though I wished the vinegar tang was stronger. Texture: Unfortunately, the coating was too hard and crunchy β€” like jaw-workout hard 😬. Maybe it was double-fried, or the batter was too thick, or the oil too hot… Verdict: Tastes good, but texture needs work. Portion is huge though β€” definitely shareable! 🍒 Grilled Skewers – "NB Small Skewer Combo" – $35.99 This set includes: 10 beef, 10 lamb, 10 chicken, 10 gizzard, 10 squid skewers They’re small skewers β€” the whole tray looks impressive but isn’t as much food as it sounds. Ranked from best to least favorite: Gizzard ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Crispy and well-seasoned Lamb ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Tender, lightly spiced, very tasty Squid ⭐⭐⭐ – Standard but good Beef ⭐⭐ – Too oily, overcooked in parts, lost its beefy flavor Chicken ⭐ – Dry and under-seasoned ⚠️ Big issue: No warming setup β€” the skewers got cold fast, which killed the vibe halfway through. βž• Extra Skewers & Bites Wang Zhong Wang Sausage – $3.50/stick Grilled Quail – $4.99 each (tender, bones were crispy β€” likely pre-fried) Mushroom, Beef Tendon, Potato Slices, Corn – All decent, but nothing mind-blowing. Most skewers tasted pre-fried then grilled β€” not a bad thing, but not exceptional either. πŸ“ Freebie: Strawberry Tanghulu We got this free for posting on Xiaohongshu! Freshly made, delicious β€” but yes, the staff will wait for you to post before handing it over πŸ˜… FYI β€” cell service inside is spotty, so maybe prep your post in advance! πŸ’° Final Bill & Overall Feel We spent ~$100 for two (including tip). Flavors: Generally solid Service: Warm and attentive Room for improvement: Skewer temperature control, texture on the Guo Bao Rou I’d come back to try their Northeastern Chinese dishes β€” like the Pork Blood Sausage with White Meat β€” and I’ve heard the Spicy Fried Chicken Cartilage is a hit! #DallasEats #No1BBQ #AsianGrill #DFWFoodie #UnsponsoredReview
