Dallas | Two Locals-Only Taquerías Recommended by My Mexican Coworkers
Today I’m sharing two high-scoring taco spots on Belt Line Rd that my Mexican colleagues swear are top-3 in the local Latino scene (who knows, but they hype them hard 🤣). 1️⃣ Taqueria & Tamaleria Nuevo León Branches in Carrollton and Richardson; I hit the Carrollton one. TL;DR—surprisingly underwhelming. • TROMPO (3/5) – their supposed star, shaved off a trompo like doner kebab. Didn’t taste fresh-off-the-spit; lukewarm, not fragrant. • TRIPA (1/5) – nightmare fuel. Deep-fried small intestine, grease bomb; felt like eating straight fryer oil. • BARBACOA (2/5) – below average, mushy shredded pork with zero spark. • ASADA (4/5) – the only decent bite; steak tasted fresher than the rest. 🌟Overall the meats felt day-old, but my coworker swears locals love it. When I walked in at lunch it was 100 % Mexican families—felt like I’d crossed an invisible border. Service was nonexistent, vibe was “neighborhood cantina.” Curious if the Richardson branch is any better? 2️⃣ La Salsa Verde Taquería First impression: leagues cleaner, meats visibly fresh, lunch line out the door, 90 % Latino crowd again. Ordered four staples: • Al pastor (3/5) – not the best I’ve had, but respectable. Seasoning is intentionally light—if you crave bold marinades, this one’s subtle. • Asada (4/5) – beef is fragrant and clearly fresh, again lightly seasoned. • Surtida (4/5) – mixed beef head cuts; bouncy, juicy, highly recommend. • Lengua rebanada (4/5) – diced tongue, mild funk, solid texture. 🌟Everything leans delicate; hit the salsa bar if you want heat. That red bottle? Nuclear—proceed with caution. That’s my two-taco showdown. Anyone else tried them? #Dallas #DallasEats #MexicanFood #Taco
