DC Diary | Long-Awaited Omakase Experience
Hey guys, today I finally checked out Sushi Nakazawa, which claims to be the number one omakase spot in Washington, DC! 🍣 TL;DR: Good ingredients, okay dining experience, price is… acceptable 💸 Last night, I stayed up late playing mahjong 🀄️ and woke up late this morning. Just an hour and a half before my reservation, I saw a text reminding me about their dress code 😳. I ended up hastily ironing the only long-sleeve shirt I brought and barely made it on time. 👉 PSA for anyone planning to visit: read their dress code and cancellation policy carefully! When you first step inside, the decor feels… very white. The counter looks like a bar, and the dining area gives Italian restaurant vibes 🍝. More than half the staff are white, too. A server came to pour water and asked if we wanted drinks 🍸. I glanced at the drink menu and was shook—most options were 200+, with wines ranging from 400 to $600 💰. There were some nice vintage reds, though! We ordered the Classic Omakase and the Chef's Omakase. The Chef’s menu felt more complete and refined, while the Classic was like a casual sushi party 🍱. Each course was introduced by the server, but the explanations felt a bit robotic—like they were just ticking boxes and didn’t really care if we understood 🗣️. Overall, the fish and shrimp quality were solid 👍, but almost two hours of cold dishes was a lot for my Chinese stomach 🥶. (I went home and devoured a bowl of Hongyou Noodle Pi right after… no shame.) #JhuDC #Jhu #Omakase #DCSushi #SushiNakazawa
