DC Food | Pasta That Looks Ordinary but is Incredibly Delicious!

The Italian cuisine in Washington just keeps on surprising. I’ve recommended RPM, Tompson Italian, and Al Volo Osteria in the past. This time, I accompanied a friend to try the long-awaited Red Hen, and it was fantastic! The atmosphere of this place is great, with warm yellow lighting and a lively environment where you can talk loudly 😆 It’s the kind of relaxed and casual spot that’s perfect for gatherings and dates. The dishes here might not look particularly appetizing; the presentation is quite plain, to say the least. But the two pastas we ordered were both delicious! 🍝 Squid Ink Seafood Pasta This black squid ink pasta was recommended by the server. It had a slight spicy kick and was very fresh and savory. I loved it! 🍜 Mushroom White Sauce Pasta This was the third pasta we tried, the only one with a white sauce. It looked really simple, as seen in picture 3, and might not your appetite, but the mushroom flavor was rich and it had a heavier texture. I liked it a lot! 🥯 Pork Puree Toast There were several toast options for appetizers, and the server recommended this pork one. The flavor is hard to describe, but it was pretty good. The pork was mashed and had a texture similar to fish. The server also recommended octopus, but we didn’t order it. Later, we found that the squid ink pasta had a bit of that flavor. 🍮 Tiramisu The tiramisu here is very authentic, with just the right amount of sweetness. It looked better than most of the other dishes and the portion was huge! I had a glass of Chardonnay, an Italian white wine. It was decent, though I left a bit of sediment after a couple of sips 😆 #WashingtonDC #DMVFoodAndFun #WhatToEatInDMV #DMVFood #WashingtonFood #WashingtonFoodGuide #WashingtonFoodie #WashingtonDCFood #ItalianCuisine #Pasta
