DC Food Review | SHIA by Edward Lee 🍽️✨
Finally visited the much-anticipated SHIA this weekend! I’d been trying to book their weekend 7-course menu for a while, and recently reservations became easier to snag. Here’s my review of each course in order: 1️⃣ Scallop and Fried Oyster Ssam 🌟🌟🌟 Sorry, no photo of this one—it was served at the bar right after we arrived, and I was so surprised I forgot to snap a pic! 😅 A sushi-style appetizer with both hot and cold elements, soft and crispy textures—a delicious and clever start! 2️⃣ Black Sesame Guksu 🌟🌟🌟🌟 This chilled sesame noodle dish was incredible! 🍜 It looked rich but tasted light and refreshing. Topped with caviar and uni at the bottom—I finished it way too fast! 3️⃣ Mul Hwe 🌟🌟🌟 The only raw fish course. Since I don’t eat raw fish, the chef kindly substituted it with tofu. The red foam on top had a subtle spicy kick. 🌶️ 4️⃣ Doenjang Pork Belly 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 An absolute favorite! 🐖 The pork belly was incredibly tender and melted in the mouth. Served with white kimchi, rice, clams, and meat—mixed together, it was heavenly! 🥹 5️⃣ Seared Saengsun 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 My husband’s top pick! Sea bass with a delicate creamy flavor, topped with a flavorful fish cake. The broth was aromatic and comforting. 🐟 6️⃣ Korean Gyeoja-Glazed Duck 🌟🌟🌟 Duck served with Korean-style rice and two side dishes. The rice was lightly seasoned, best enjoyed with the duck and sides. The duck itself was perfectly prepared! 🦆 7️⃣ Ssuk Ice Cream 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 SO GOOD!!! We cleared the plate in under a minute—even though we were already full! 😂 The ice cream tasted a bit like matcha (but it wasn’t—I forgot what the server said it was!). 8️⃣ Seoul Han-Ip 🌟🌟🌟🌟 A lovely banana-based dessert 🍌, but the real star was the beautiful box of sweets—each bite showed so much thought and care! We loved the whole menu—all seven courses were unique and delicious, with no weak links! 📸 (Menu photo in the last slide). We even received a small gift to take home. The only downside was that Chef Edward Lee wasn’t there that night—but we’d definitely return when the menu changes! Have you been to SHIA? What did you think of the courses?
