Dexter Parsonage Museum: A Spiritual Home

💛This modest white clapboard cottage, built in 1912, is located in the "Centennial Hill" neighborhood of Montgomery—an area that was home to a prominent African American community in the early 20th century. 🍃Its most famous resident was undoubtedly Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It was within these walls that he helped plan the Montgomery Bus Boycott and drafted early versions of his memoir, Stride Toward Freedom. ✨The interior has been meticulously preserved as it was during Dr. King's time: an open Bible rests on the desk, Coretta's piano stands in the living room, a 1960s black-and-white television remains in the kitchen, ✨and cracks from the 1956 bombing of the house have been intentionally left visible, accompanied by framed donation checks from citizens who supported its restoration. 🍁Volunteer guides, often members of the Baptist church, will point to the study and share, "It was under this green lampshade that Dr. King wrote the words, 'We will endure suffering, but we will not surrender.'" #CivilRightsMovement #HistoricalHome #Montgomery
