DMV | Tried Ukrainian Food Recommended by a Ukrainian Classmate! 🇺🇦
📍 Ruta Ukrainian Restaurant Near Eastern Market in DC A Ukrainian classmate recommended this spot, and I finally visited with a good friend! Overall, it was okay—very Russian-influenced 🇷🇺. Almost every dish came with sour cream and what looked like bean sprouts. 🛎️ Borscht Basically a tomato and beet soup—tasted just as you’d expect. The side bread was soft and delicious though! 🍞 🛎️ Ukrainian Dumplings (Varenyky) The dough is thicker than Chinese dumplings. Filled with shredded beef—my friend said it tasted better with vinegar 😂 🛎️ Ukrainian Potato Pancakes (Deruny) Very similar to hash browns, served with a creamy mushroom sauce. 🥔 🛎️ Pork Chop Huge portion—two giant grilled pork chops! Surprisingly tender, like Texas BBQ but less smoky and saucy. 🥩 🛎️ Sea Bass Delicious! The fish was tender and flaky, served with a light cream stew made with colorful carrots and spinach. 🐟 Verdict: Worth trying for something new, but probably wouldn’t go back.
