DMV Aesthetic Dining|Kappo DC Wagyu Omakase 🍣✨

Finally visited the much-hyped Kappo, which specializes in a wagyu-focused omakase experience with 8 courses. The restaurant is located underground—a hidden yet stylish izakaya vibe with only 8 counter seats. 🍶🪑 Overall impressions: decent but not outstanding. The wagyu quality was excellent, and some dishes showed the chef’s creative touch. 🥩👨🍳 However, it’s worth mentioning—we added the uni (sea urchin) and caviar for an extra $100 per person, expecting one or two additional courses. Instead, they simply paired each existing course with uni or caviar, sometimes served on a small side dish. This backfired at times: for example, the chawanmushi was already salty enough, and adding caviar made it overwhelmingly salty. 🥘🚫 The lobster and caviar combo also disrupted the original flavor balance. The uni quality was mediocre, and eating it plain without being made into nigiri was unpleasantly fishy. 🦪😖 The most disappointing part was the final rice course—the rice wasn’t treated or seasoned, so it absorbed the raw blood from the beef, paired with dry, sauceless meat. It felt like it was just there to fill you up. 😔🍚 Dessert featured frozen sugar-coated shiso leaves with shaved ice—a trendy use of shiso in desserts lately. 🍧🌿 In summary: not as amazing as the online buzz suggests, but still worth a try. Just remember—skip the uni and caviar add-ons. Not worth the extra cost! 💸🙅♀️ 💰 Price: Base omakase: $150 pp + 22% tip With add-ons: around $370 pp #Omakase #JapaneseCuisine #Wagyu #DMVFood #DMVDining #FineDiningDC #FoodReview #HiddenGem #CounterSeats #ChefExperience #DCeats #SushiLovers #WagyuLovers #DinnerVibes #NotWorthTheHype #FoodieTruth #DCfoodscene
