DMV Dining | Hidden German Flavors with Seasonal Menus! 🍂🇩🇪

Location: Cafe Berlin Lots of people say parking is tough here, but we found free hourly parking in the nearby neighborhood—just look for the yellow zones! 🅿️ Nestled in Washington DC, Cafe Berlin is a restaurant specializing in authentic German cuisine. We visited on the last day of their autumn menu 🍁. We originally wanted to try the famous German pork knuckle, but our server told us it’s only available from mid-September to mid-October. It might return next year during the Cherry Blossom Festival! 🌸 Here’s what we tried from the classic German menu: 🥔 Kartoffel Phannkuchen (Potato Pancake) Crispy and golden, with a buttery aroma—very similar to homemade potato pancakes. Paired with sweet-and-sour apple sauce, it’s refreshing and not greasy at all! 🍎 🐷 Wiener Schnitzel (Viennese Schnitzel) Similar to Japanese tonkatsu, but with richer, more flavorful sauces. Crispy on the outside, juicy inside—a classic Austro-German staple! 🌭 Wurstfeast (Sausage Platter) Five different grilled sausages, each with tender meat and crispy skin. Served with a variety of sauces—so delicious, you won’t want to stop! Side Dishes (Each main comes with two sides): 🟣 Rotkohl (Sweet & Sour Red Cabbage) Tangy and addictive—perfect for cutting through the richness of meat dishes. 🥔 Kartoffelknodel (Potato Dumplings) Soft and smooth with a surprisingly taro-like texture—very memorable! 🧀 Kasespatzle (Cheese Spaetzle) Rich, cheesy, and wonderfully stretchy—a must-try for cheese lovers! 🥔 Kartoffelsalat (Potato Salad) Sweet and tangy with a whole-grain mustard kick—great as an appetizer! Tips for Your Visit 📅 Seasonal menus: Cafe Berlin rotates its menu with the seasons. We caught the last day of the autumn menu (Nov 15). The winter menu features venison and wild duck! ⏳ Reservation recommended during peak hours. We went at 2 PM and it was pretty quiet. 🍖 If you want the famous pork knuckle, plan your visit between mid-September and mid-October, or wait for the cherry blossom season special!
