DMV Food | Affordable Laotian Cuisine at Padaek – A Flavor Explosion!
There are quite a few Laotian restaurants in and around Washington DC, and this one – Padaek in Falls Church, VA – is part of the same group as Baan Mae and Thip Khao Restaurant in the city (both of which I’ve tried and written about before!). This place is seriously tasty! I’ve been to Padaek multiple times, but since it has such a cozy, home-style vibe, I never got around to posting about it until now. Their menu blends Laotian and Thai dishes – you’ll find everything from grilled pork neck and curry to pad Thai and drunken noodles. This time, to try something new, I ordered the Mieng (which means "food wrapped in leaves") from their recommended mains, paired with a whole fried pomfret fish. It was such a fun and delicious experience! You wrap the fried fish, rice noodles, peanuts, veggies, ginger, scallions, and a sweet-salty sauce in a leaf – the combination of textures and flavors is amazing! We also got the fried tofu appetizer with sweet chili sauce (very Thai-style) and a Laotian papaya salad. The salad looks simple but packs a serious spicy punch – if you’re not into heat, proceed with caution! 🌶️😅 I’ve been here many times and never been disappointed. The prices are slightly lower than Baan Mae or Thip Khao, making it a great value for delicious food! Fun story: On my way out, I saw an elderly couple in their 80s slowly making their way in – even with difficulty walking, they still came to eat here. That’s how you know it’s good! P.S. Thip Khao is amazing for authentic Laotian, and Baan Mae offers creative Southeast Asian fusion with a rotating menu. But Padaek? Definitely a gem! 📍 Padaek: 6395 Seven Corners Center, Falls Church, VA 22044 What’s the most memorable Southeast Asian dish you’ve tried in the DMV?
