Dumbarton Oaks Museum and Gardens 🌿🏛️

Nestled in Georgetown, Washington DC, Dumbarton Oaks was once the private estate of Robert and Mildred Bliss. Thanks to the Blisses’ wealth and refined artistic taste, the property now boasts not only exquisitely designed gardens but also an impressive collection of artifacts from Late Antiquity and the Byzantine Empire. (More on the artifacts in a separate post! 📜) What stood out most during my visit was how the gardens emphasize spatial harmony rather than simply imitating European styles or overcrowding the landscape. By skillfully working with the natural terrain, the garden creates layers of scenery that flow beautifully from near to far, high to low. Even small details—like winding paths, arched corridors, and hidden corners—are thoughtfully designed to evoke a sense of discovery and tranquility. It’s the kind of place that invites you to wander deeper, step by step, into its lush, green world 🌱✨. And keep an eye out for the little rabbits that hop around beneath the trees and through the grass! 🐇💚 #WashingtonDC #DMVWeekend #DMVLife #GeorgetownDC #GardenDesign #EastCoastTravel #HistoricEstate #ByzantineArt #NatureInCity #ExploreDC #SecretGardens #UrbanOasis #ArtAndNature #Wanderlust #PhotoSpot #DumbartonOaks
