Exploring San Gabriel’s Food Scene — So Much to Love! 🍴
During my recent trip to LA, my first food stop was San Gabriel—a hub for delicious and diverse Asian eats. Here’s a quick recap of my tasty (and not-so-tasty) adventures: 🍗 Heng Heng Chicken Rice Tried their Hainanese chicken rice for lunch. The chicken was just okay, but the sauce stood out and paired nicely with the dark meat. As a Cantonese food lover, I still prefer the version at 88 Noodle Papa in Vegas—tender chicken with ginger scallion sauce wins every time! 🍢 Once Upon A Bistro 📍 933 W Duarte Rd, Monrovia, CA 91016 A cozy spot for Chinese-style skewers at great prices! We ordered almost everything, and the grilled chicken wings were the star—they really brought back memories of street BBQ in China. Coming from Vegas, where Chinese food can be hit or miss, this felt like a delicious homecoming. 🍍 Alice‘s Kitchen 📍 580 E Garvey Ave, Monterey Park, CA 91755 We craved Hong Kong-style cafe snacks, so we stopped here. The fish balls, mixed sauce cheung fun, and pineapple buns were pretty decent! But the dry-fried beef chow fun didn’t quite hit the mark, and the Yangzhou fried rice was underwhelming. My husband tried the yuanyang (coffee-tea drink) and said it was bland. I skipped the drinks—gotta save room for better sips! 😆 🌶️ Rong He Sichuan Restaurant 📍 1265 E Valley Blvd, Alhambra, CA 91801 We were really in the mood for frog legs, so we picked this Sichuan spot. Even the “mild” spice level had us tearing up—the ginger and frog hot pot and double crunch stir-fry were delicious but seriously spicy! If you can’t handle heat, tread carefully. Portions are huge—almost every table had leftovers to go. We waited about 15 minutes around noon. Totally worth it! ⚔️ Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Experience @ Bearology 📍 5805 Rosemead Blvd, Temple City, CA 91780 A themed pop-up for my little one—reservations are a must! There’s a $10 deposit per person (goes toward your order). Let’s just say… the food isn’t the highlight 😅, but the kids loved the vibe and decor. From nostalgic skewers to tear-jerking Sichuan fare, San Gabriel never fails to deliver flavor and fun. Can’t wait to come back and explore more! #LosAngeles #SanGabrielEats #LAFood #ChineseFood #AsianEats #FoodAdventure #SGVFoodie #KidFriendlyLA #SpicyLovers
