Finally made it to Houston's Chinatown! ๐ฎ๐
Yesterday, I was frantically searching for my lost phone, reaching out to everyone in various WeChat groups at Houston Medical Center for advice. Turns out, nobody had experience dealing with lost and found centers thereโฆ ๐คทโ๏ธ๐ฑ So, there I was, spamming dozens of messages across different groups. Though I didn't get direct help, it indirectly caught the attention of a new buddyโkind of like making a friend out of thin air! ๐ซ๐ฌ Coincidentally, one of these new pals lived just a kilometer away. So, I hitched a ride, and today we went exploring Chinatown together. The area's got signs with Chinese characters alongside English, and the supermarkets are stocked with Chinese snacks, fresh veggies, and moreโit's a taste of home! ๐ฅ๐ฅฌ In the U.S., cities with large Chinese populations are usually New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Each of these places has nearly half a million Chinese residents, and their Chinatowns are really something special! ๐ฝ๐๐๏ธ The rising stars are Seattle, Chicago, Hawaii, and Boston. But Houston, here in Texas, barely makes the list. Our Chinatown might as well be called "Asiatown" since Bellaire Boulevard, between South Gessner Road and Beltway 8, is lined with strip malls and ample parking. ๐๏ธ๐ ฟ๏ธ In the Houston area, over 392,000 people identify as Asian, making up 8% of the population. In Chinatown, that percentage shoots up to 23%, with Vietnamese, Indians, and Chinese roughly splitting the sceneโit's a true melting pot! ๐๐ #houston #UnexpectedMoments ๐๐ฒ
